The palais de Tokyo was built for the International Exhibition of Arts and Technology of 1937. Since 1961 the building houses the musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris), and the Site de création contemporaine (Site for Contemporary Creation) since 2002. In the foreground are architectural sculptures by Alfred Auguste Janniot.
