The inside of the abandoned South Bay Incinerator in Boston in 1988.

The inside of the South Bay Incinerator on South Bay Avenue in Roxbury. Built in 1959, the incinerator was universally despised in the surrounding neighborhoods because it sent up horrible clouds of pollution over South Boston, Roxbury and Dorchester. Thus after it closed in August 1975 neighborhood kids trashed & graffitied the place, and Boston city municipal services and other private people used it as a dumping ground.
