Packages of black chocolate, milk chocolate and white chocolate in a Monoprix supermarket.

Monoprix generated a bit of controversy in the spring of 2015 when it was discovered they were selling black chocolate and milk chocolate with pictures of people “of color” on the packaging, while the packages of white “chocolate” were illustrated with images of the “chocolate”. With good reason, “white chocolate” is a contradiction of terms and meaningless because it doesn’t contain cocoa solids and thus cannot be considered chocolate.
