A wall of skulls, bones and skeletons in the Catacombs ossuaries.

Skulls and bones piled up along a walkway in the Catacombs, a network of former quarries under place Denfert-Rochereau. Skeletal remains were taken to the Catacombs in horse-drawn carriages from cemeteries to the reinforced tunnels every night from 1786 to 1788, many more remains were added over the decades.
