Around one of the lower rings of the the dome is the inscription in Latin: “Thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and I will give thee the keys of Heaven.”

The ceiling of the dome of the Vatican, Saint Peter’s Basilica was designed by Michaelangelo.
